St. Mary's River Passages-March 21

I may not report St. Mary's River passages for the whole season, because it may be to much for me. But for now, I'm going to do it. So here's the report:
USCG Alder, upbound

Another Update On The Shipping Season

The Burns Harbor and Peter R Cresswell have departed lay-up from Milwaukee and Sarnia. The Burns Harbor is heading to Escanaba to load iron ore, while the Cresswell is at anchor in Lake Huron. Meanwhile, the Alpena is in Milwaukee, the Samuel De Champlain/Innovation is nearing Cleveland, the CSL Laurentian is still docked in Sandusky, and the Calumet is upbound on Lake Huron. In other stories, the Cuyahoga has shifted from her lay-up berth in Hamilton, to another dock to load slag. The Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder is still shuttling iron ore in Cleveland, and the Atlantic Huron and Atlantic Superior departed lay-up from Halifax, NS. And the last ship is the Mesabi Miner, heading to Marquette with a load of coal from Superior.

Update On The Shipping Season

Five more days until the Soo Locks open! The Mesabi Miner is expected to depart Duluth-Superior today with a load of coal for Marquette. Also, this weekend, the CSL Tadoussac is expected to head to Superior to load iron ore. Once the Miner is done unloading in Marquette, she'll head back to Duluth-Superior and take on a load of iron ore, destined for Indiana Harbor. Currently, the Calumet is on Lake Erie, heading for what I believe is Windsor. Also, the CSL Laurentian is at anchor, waiting for winds to subside before docking at the NS coal dock in Sandusky. The Samuel De Champlain/Innovation is currently downbound on Lake Huron, heading for Detroit. The Prentiss Brown/St. Mary's Conquest is still in Charlevoix and the Alpena is in South Chicago.

Another Update On The Shipping Season

As I thought, the CSL Laurentian has departed lay-up and is heading to Sandusky. I'm not really sure what cargo she will load.

Detroit Arrivals-March 18

Manitou [tug] arrived for unknown reasons

Update On The Shipping Season

The CCGS Griffon is currently in Port Colborne, ON where I believe she is going to help the CSL Laurentian through the ice, as the Laurentian's destination is Sandusky. But, I could be wrong. Also, the Mesabi Miner is scheduled to load coal tomorrow in her lay-up port of Superior. She will then take that coal to Marquette. Only six days until the opening of the Soo Locks! One more thing I wanted to share was what ships are currently sailing on the Lakes: Calumet, Alpena, Samuel De Champlain/Innovation, GL Ostrander/Integrity, Joseph L Block, Prentiss Brown/St. Mary's Conquest, and a variety of tankers, tugs, and both USCG and CCGS vessels.

Upadate On The Shipping Season

The Calumet is returning to Sandusky for another load of stone. Meanwhile, the Samuel De Champlain/Innovation and Prentiss Brown/St. Mary's Conquest are unloading in South Chicago.

Friday, March 15, 2013

The USCG and CCGS Icebreaking Operation

The USCG Mackinaw, USCG Biscane Bay, and CCGS Samuel Risley have locked through the Soo Locks and are heading out into Whitefish Bay to break ice for when the shipping season goes into full swing.

Port Huron Passages-March 13

CCGS Samuel Risley, upbound to the St. Mary's River and Lake Superior to assist the USCG Mackinaw and USCG Biscane Bay with icebreaking for when the shipping season goes into full swing.

Detroit Arrivals-March 14

Rouge River Passages-March 12

This is a report I kind of missed, so here it is: Algocanada [tanker], arrived on the Rouge River with a load of oil or other liquid.

More Good News!

The Calumet has departed lay up and is currently heading downbound. She is headed to Marblehead to load either salt or stone, I think.

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Straits Of Mackinac Passages-March 12

USCG Biscane Bay, eastbound to Lake Superior to break ice with the USCG Mackinaw.
Samuel De Champlain/Innovation, eastbound to Alpena

Update On The Alpena

The Alpena's destination has been changed to Milwaukee instead of South Chicago. Also, the Prentiss Brown/St. Mary's Conquest have left Charlevoix headed for Milwaukee.

Update On The Shipping Season

Currently, the USCG Katmai Bay is heading to escort the Alpena and Algoeast through the ice in the Straits Of Mackinac. Also, the tug Samuel De Champlain departed lay-up in Sturgeon Bay and then went to Milwaukee to pick up her barge, the Innovation. They then backed out of Milwaukee's harbor and then they'll probably head for Alpena. Finally, the Escanaba iron ore trade is expected to resume on March 14. So here's the schedule for Straits passages today:

USCG Katmai Bay, westbound
Alpena, westbound to South Chicago
Algoeast [tanker], westbound to Chicago
Samuel De Champlain/Innovation, westbound to Alpena

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Port Huron Passages-March 10

Important News

I am going to start telling you what ships are going to pass Port Huron, the Rouge River, and the Straits Of Mackinac, instead of telling you when they passed. That way, you might have a chance to see the ships. I hope you enjoy this new way of reporting.

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Straits Of Mackinac Passages-March 7

Algocanada [tanker], eastbound to Sarnia

Another Update On The CSL Tadoussac, Calumet And Other Ships

The CSL Tadoussac, Calumet, Michipicoten, and Cason J Callaway are still not moving. Neither are any other ships except the Prentiss Brown/St. Mary's Conquest, tankers, tugs, barges, and US and Canadian Coast Guard Vessels. Let's hope that they start to move soon.

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

Update On The CSL Tadoussac, Calumet And Other Ships

The CSL Tadoussac is still docked in Thunder Bay, as is the Calumet in Sarnia. But, earlier the Cason J Callaway moved out from its dock in Sturgeon Bay. Then it stopped and is either anchored or rafted to the Philip R Clarke. Also, the Michipicoten moved a little in the North Slip. I'll continue to keep you posted.

Another Update

The CSL Tadoussac's destination is still Superior, but is not moving. Meanwhile, the Prentiss Brown/St. Mary's Conquest have departed Charlevoix for Chicago to unload their cement load. Also, the Calumet is still not moving, but the Michipicoten, I believe [I could be wrong] has gone deeper into the North Slip. Besides the Prentiss Brown/St. Mary's Conquest, no other freighters or ATB's are moving. I hope you found this report helpful. I will continue to update this situation.

Update

The CSL Tadoussac is still in Thunder Bay, but it is scheduled to head to Superior. But it's not under command. I will let you know if she moves at all. Currently, the Prentiss Brown/St. Mary's Conquest are still docked in Charlevoix. The pair arrived their on March 3. Also, the Calumet I believe spun around in Sarnia's North Slip and her status is underway. But she's not moving. Maybe the shipping season is starting to go somewhere. Let's hope so, because I'm pretty anxious to start reporting again. And of course, see the ships back out on the Lakes.

Cheboygan Arrivals-March 5

USCG Hollyhock arrived, but for a short time only. This is Cheboygan's first arrival of March.
