A Slow Shipping Season Combined With Less Cargo Amounts Equals Many Ships in Lay-up

Since the beginning of the shipping season, some ships never departed lay-up and some have entered lay-up. Other remain in long term lay-up. Both Canadians and American ships are in lay-up and cargo amounts have dropped including iron ore, coal, stone and grain. Ships currently in lay-up include the following:

Birchglen-Short term lay-up in Montreal
Spruceglen-Short term lay-up in Montreal
Saguenay-In lay-up since December 2012 in Montreal
Richelieu- In lay-up since December 2012 in Montreal
Mapleglen-In lay-up since December 2012 in Montreal
Oakglen-In lay-up since January 2013 in Montreal
Atlantic Superior-Laid-up in Montreal. May be sold for scrap.
Algoma Quebecois-In lay-up since December 2012 in Hamilton
Adam E Cornelius- Remains in long term lay-up in Toledo
American Valor-Remains in long term lay-up in Toledo
American Fortitude-Remains in long term lay-up in Toledo
Tecumseh-Short term lay-up in Windsor
Manitoba-Short term lay-up in Sarnia
CSL Tadoussac-Short term lay-up in Sarnia
Frontenac-Short term lay-up in Sarnia
Algorail-Short term lay-up in Sarnia
Algoma Transfer-In lay-up since December 2011 in Goderich
Algosteel-Short term lay-up in Owen Sound
Cleveland and Cleveland Rocks-In lay-up since December in Muskegon
John Sherwin-Remains in long term lay-up in DeTour
American Victory-Remains in long term lay-up in Superior
Edward L Ryerson-Remains in long term lay-up in Superior
John G Munson-In lay-up since January 2013 in Superior
John J Boland-In lay-up since January 2013in Superior
Algoma Provider and Phoenix Star scrapped.
So there you have it. I will update this blog if any ships enter or come out of lay-up. Hopefully I won't have to do this, but if any other lakers get scrapped, I will post that information as soon as possible.
